This Classic Strawberry Shortcake dessert recipe is easy to make for Spring Celebrations, Mother’s Day, or ‘just because’! An easy recipe that is also easy to make for any party dessert buffets. This recipe is Adapted from Cooking Light Magazine 1998 recipe.



  1. FOR THE STRAWBERRIES:  Add the sliced strawberries, honey and lemon zest to bowl. Stir to blend the ingredients, and set aside.
  2. Preheat Oven to 425 degrees.
  3. In a medium bowl blend together with a fork the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
  4. Cut in the chilled butter using a knife, pastry cutter or use your fingers to cut in the butter so the flour resembles course meal.
  5. Add in the buttermilk and stir until the flour is moistened (the dough will be sticky). Using your hands gather the flour mixture into a ball and kneed on a floured surface until well blended and the dough is no longer sticky.
  6. Pat the dough into a 6 x 4 inch rectangle and roll out the dough with a rolling pin.
  7. Cut out circles place on parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 12 minutes and cool on wire rack.
  8. I made 12 thin biscuits with this method. For each serving I used 2 biscuits – a bottom and a top.
  9. You can also just use one shortcake and top with the strawberries.
  10. When ready to serve, add strawberries, whipped cream (Optional) and top with another shortcake.
