You know that old saying ‘if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen’. It’s now the time to get out of the kitchen and let the grill do the cookin’.
Burgers with cheese and dressed with different sauces, spicy wings, ribs and grilled shrimp are just a few of the foods we enjoy.
Cool wines, beer and iced teas are the drinks we look for and we can keep them chilled in the cooler while we chow down when the sun begins to set.
TIP: The tannins in red wine can intensify the heat in spicy foods. A fruit-forward red wine with lower tannins is the best choice.
Red berry fruit forward wines are a nice compliment to the Burgers and spicy wings. A Syrah from the cooler region of Washington state is just right for the spicy wings with a fruit based marinade or the burgers that might have a spicy sauce as well. Also look for a fruit-forward Grenache.
TIP: White wines with crisp acidity and citrus flavors are refreshing and will pair well with salads and grilled fish that have citrus based sauces or dressings.
Choose Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, or Pinot Gris for the grilled shrimp or other grilled fish with an herbal citrus dressing.
For spicier foods you can choose a Riesling.
TIP: Do choose a Rosé wine. It is a very food friendly and with it’s crisp acidity you can make it your summer house wine. Serve rosé wine well chilled.
Don’t be shy about choosing rosé wine for your guests. It has the acidity of white wine, the complexity of red wine, AND it comes in a variety of styles from dry to sweet.
It is the perfect wine for any barbecue or party starting with appetizers all the way to desserts.
