You can make this sour cream ‘shortbread style’ dough up to 2-3 days in advance. Decorate with a sugar glaze or royal icing.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.

  1. In a medium size bowl beat the butter with a hand mixer for 30 seconds.
  2. Add in the sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt and blend just until well combined.
  3. Add in the egg yolk, sour cream and vanilla and blend until well combined.
  4. Slowly add in the flour and mix just until blended.
  5. Turn dough out onto plastic wrap and form a ball, cut in two sections and wrap up in the plastic wrap. Chill for at least 30 minutes or until easy to handle.
  6. Roll out to 1/4 inch and cut out shapes. Place cutouts 2 inches apart onto prepared baking sheets
  7. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-11 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned.
  8. Cool on pan for about 10 minutes, continue to cool on wire racks before decorating.
