Diary Free Assorted Berry Fruit Smoothie
a healthy breakfast or lunch smoothie on those hectic days when you’re running late or great for an afternoon snack.
Now that the weather is starting to warm up it’s the perfect time to enjoy a refreshing smoothie that tastes good and can also be healthy.
Smoothies are so flexible. They can be made either sweet or savory for a good for you drink that can add nutrients to our diet without realizing it. Making smoothies at home is also great for the kids, they can make their own drink and never know it’s healthy!
A few Helpful TIPS:
use fresh fruits you have available and add frozen fruit instead of ice cubes (slice up ripe bananas and freeze them in advance)
add liquid — either milk (dairy or non-dairy) or filtered water; add fresh juice by using peeled orange or grapefruit for additional liquid
if sweetness is needed use your preferred sweetener – taste first before adding sweetener, the ripe fruit often is already sweet enough
for added nutrition, add flax seeds, tofu, yogurt, or protein powder
A quick and easy smoothie is not rocket science. All you need is whatever fruits and/or veggies you have along with a blender, any blender. If smoothie making is new for you, this is the easiest way to begin a new journey. The possibilities are endless for making smoothies, all you need are your favorite ingredients.
Here is Fresh Orange Juice Strawberry Smoothie you might enjoy.
After I made my first smoothie I realized that this is a drink everyone will enjoy. My personal preference is a dairy free smoothie, so I only add in filtered water but there are no restrictions for smoothie making.
- 1 cup combined strawberries, raspberries, blueberries (whatever you have)
- 6 oz. filtered water OR ½ cup almond milk
- 1 tbls. honey (Or use you preferred sweetener)
- 1 tbls. flax seeds (or chia seeds) (optional)
- ½ cup ice cubes
- Add all ingredients to blender and puree until smooth. If too thick add a little more filtered water.
How simple is that . . . Use any fruit you enjoy if you don’t like berries.
Freeze any leftover fresh fruit you have that may be too ripe to make a diary free assorted berry fruit smoothie. When you have enough to make a smoothie you can then add flavored yogurt to the blender for a quick breakfast or lunch.
If you like a richer smoothie you can use almond milk or your preferred nut milk or non-dairy yogurt.
