Easy Orange Chicken Recipe Better Than Takeout

This flexible Easy Orange Chicken recipe can be prepared stove top, in a slow cooker/crock pot, or instant pot. Any method you choose is basic and easy. This recipe is for 2-4 people. It’s a very flexible recipe, so you can increase the ingredients as needed.



On hectic days, the first 3 Items (rice, green beans and oranges) Can be Prepared in Advance which will cut time off when making dinner.

  1. Combine BBQ sauce, orange marmalade, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger if using, in a saucepan and simmer for 5–10 minutes and set it aside.
  2. Cook rice and vegetables and set aside.
  3. Zest then peel an orange and cut into segments, set aside.
  4. Cut up the chicken breast into cubes and add to a large plastic bag with 2 tablespoons of flour and shake the bag to coat all the chicken pieces with the flour.
  5. Heat a thin layer of oil in a large, nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add chicken and saute for 3–5 minutes on each side.
  6. Add the cooked chicken to the prepared sauce and stir to coat the chicken, heat up a for a minute to infuse the flavors.
  7. Serve with rice and a side of veggies (green beans or sugar snap peas) and garnish with green onions.
