- Prep Time: 5 mins.
- Cook Time: 20-30 min.
- Total Time: 25-35 min.
- Yield: 1 1/2 cups
- Category: Dinner

- 1 or 2 garlic cloves (whole or chopped)
- 1 Tbls. olive oil
- 1 15 oz. can of tomato sauce
- salt and pepper (to taste)
- 1 tsp. basil or oregano (optional to taste)
- 1 tbls. red wine (optional)
You can prepare this sauce early in the day and set it aside until you are ready to make the pizza.
- Heat olive oil in a 1.5 quart sauce pan with cover. Add garlic and let it simmer until the flavor blends into the oil, about 3-4 minutes. Try not to let it burn or it will taste bitter.
- Add in the tomato sauce and simmer for a few minutes then add the red wine if you choose. Cover and simmer gently approximately 20 minutes. Add salt, pepper, basil, oregano as desired.
When I’m ready to make my homemade pizza I line a pizza pan with parchment paper. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of olive oil to the parchment paper. Using a brush, spread the olive oil over the entire parchment paper. The olive oil helps to keep everything from sticking. Yes, I have forgotten to use the parchment and oil once or twice and the pizza stuck to the pan.
Next using a rolling pin, roll out the dough into a round that will fit your pan. When rolling out the dough, rotate the dough a quarter of a turn to keep the dough in a round. Place the dough in the pan and then spread the sauce with a spoon over the dough.
Add the cheese and any other toppings you like. This week I added a few sliced olives. You can add any kind of toppings you like: sausage, onions, peppers, olives, pepperoni . . . the possibilities are endless.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. When you are ready to cook the pizza, place it in the oven and bake approximately 15-24 minutes. When the pizza dough edges are browned and it is lightly browned underneath the pizza is done. You could always bake the pizza a bit longer if you like a crispy crust. The baking time for the pizza will vary, depending on the size and thickness of the pizza you make.
